PME positively critical of investing in nuclear power plants

On the 25th of July PME's Eric Uijen was a guest on Nieuwsuur, a Dutch current affairs television programme, where he will talk about potential investments in new Dutch nuclear power plants. We emphasise the word ‘potential’ because it is far from clear whether such an investment can provide a good return for our members.

That said, PME is positively critical of any investments in nuclear power plants. Nuclear power can reduce CO2 emissions on the journey to a carbon-neutral economy. Once you go down the nuclear route, plenty of work needs to be done. And it is the government that needs to move first. For example, the power grid needs to be expanded because it makes little sense to produce electricity without being able to transport it. Want to know more about our position on investment in nuclear power plants? If so, read our paper (in Dutch) here.
