As a rule, your pension starts on the day you reach state retirement age. When that is exactly, depends on your date of birth. Read more about this on our page about state retirement pension (AOW). We will notify you six months in advance. We will tell you how much pension you will get and how you can apply for your pension. Would you like to take early retirement? Or partial retirement? You can do this as early as age 55. In that case, please contact us. You can also retire later, at the most 5 years after your state retirement age.

There is no need to register your partner if you get married in the Netherlands. Or if you enter into a registered partnership. Please do register your partner if you start living together.

In case of your death, your partner and children will receive survivor's pension. It is also called partner pension and orphan's pension.

• Your partner receives a life-long partner pension.
• Your children receive orphan's pension until they reach the age of 25.

Yes, your partner must sign the application if you make a choice that is different from the standard option. Choosing to apply for more or less partner pension will affect your partner in case of your death. This is why your partner has to agree and co-sign the application.
