Positive impact

We invest your pension money for a good return. We want to do this with as few negative consequences for society as possible. That's why we reduce the CO₂ emissions of our investments. We also work to combat pollution, damage to biodiversity and human rights violations, for example. But we want to do more than just reduce negative impact. We also want our investments to have a positive impact. Always with both a social and a financial return in mind. In other words: we must also make money. It is your pension, after all. For positive impact, we focus on three themes.

Climate and nature

We are keen for our investments to contribute to combating climate change, which makes clean energy part of such investments. We invest in wind turbines and solar parks, contributing to the energy transition. By 2023, our investments in the energy transition amounted to more than EUR 1.2 billion. They helped to produce a lot of renewable energy, for example. This total is comparable to what 336,000 households consume in a year. That is more households than those of Utrecht, Almere and Purmerend combined.

Apart from clean energy, we also invest in the circular economy. This way, we ensure reuse of raw materials and less waste. These investments meant recycling as much waste as 18,000 households generated in 2023.

Innovation and work

We invest your pension money in a large part of the world. But, where possible, we also invest close to home. Preferably in innovative companies, and often in our own metal and technology sector. This way, we contribute to technological innovation. This innovation is badly needed, for example in the energy transition and in healthcare. This way, we also contribute to employment in your own sector. We invest in, among others, the innovative Dutch technology funds Innovation Industries and DeeptechXL.

Housing and health

You can live in pension money. We build rental properties that generate a solid return. Good for your pension and good for the residents, because they have a pleasant and affordable home. In the Netherlands, we have investments worth 901 million euros in rental housing in the mid-rental segment. We are working to make our existing housing stock more sustainable. We also invest in sustainable new housing, for instance in timber homes. Good for your pension, good for the environment.

In addition to housing we also invest in healthcare. We do this in companies that develop new medical technologies or medicines. The goal: a solid return and high-quality and accessible care.
